Maritime Terrorism and Piracy: Security Challenges in South East Asia

Brief

The security environment in South East Asia is being challenged from several directions. The region is plagued with piracy and has also witnessed maritime terrorism related activities, drug smuggling, gun running and illegal migration. Some of these have the potential to disrupt and destroy maritime enterprise in the region.

About the Author
Dr Vijay Sakhuja is presently with the Observer Research Foundation (ORF), New Delhi, India. He was a Research Fellow at the Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses, New Delhi(July 1999 to July 2003) and Research Fellow (January 1997- December 1998) at United Service Institution of India New Delhi. He is the author of Confidence Building From The Sea: An Indian Initiative (Knowledge World, New Delhi, 2001.
